BYZANTINE CHRISTIAN ROMAN COIN OF EMPEROR MAURICE TIBERIUS IN 14K GOLD PENDANT *CPB024

$253.51

Struck under the rule of emperor Maurice Tiberius, this beautiful and highly defined large bronze half follis coin features a most impressive dark-hued patina that really accentuates the fine detail of this artifact from the Christian Roman Byzantine Empire.  The rich shades of dark brown contrast wonderfully with the bright high polish of the 14K yellow gold setting.  This is a very large authentic ancient bronze coin at 25 mm, about the size of a U.S. quarter.

The Byzantine follis coin shown above features a superbly struck design with a superb and rare portrait of the emperor facing the viewer.  The follis was a standard of Roman Byzantine currency similar to the dollar to US currency.  One follis was equal to 40 nummi in the Byzantine monetary system.  This coin was a half-follis, representing 20 nummi.  It is not common knowledge that the Roman Empire continued on for another 1000 years in the East as the Christian Byzantine Empire after its fall in the West.  This was a fantastic period of splendor and unique melding of East and Western cultures.  This is a spectacular and rare wearable artifact from this famous time.
